Samsung and Microsoft expand their partnership agreement

Microsoft has announced that it has signed an agreement with Samsung Electronics, which provides free access to cross-license their respective patents. Under the agreement, in addition, Microsoft will receive from Samsung "royalties" for the sale of each phone or tablet-based Android platform. The two companies also agreed to collaborate on the development and marketing of Windows Phone.

"Microsoft and Samsung sees big growth opportunities for Windows Phone and we are investing to achieve this goal," said Andy Lees, president of the Windows Division at Microsoft Phone. "Microsoft believes in a business model in which all our partners can grow and profit through our platform."

"Through our cross-licensing their patent portfolios, Samsung and Microsoft can continue to offer the latest innovations in mobile industry," said Dr.Won-Pyo Hong, executive vice president of global product strategy of mobile Samsung. "After a long partnership we are pleased to open a new chapter with the launch of the new Windows Phone" Mango "planned for this fall."
